The perfect dress, the one you picture yourself walking down the aisle in, the one that takes your groom's breath away, THE ONE. That special wedding dress. Over this Labor Day weekend, I ventured into the world of wedding dress shopping for the first time. No one told me how overwhelming it was. I went into it with what I thought was exactly what I wanted to wear, the silhouette I wanted, what I did not like, what I absolutely needed to have. The same goes for other clothes, it either looks better on the hanger or on the person. You just have to try it on. If you are one of those brides to be that just want a dress because of the designer, to each's own. But don't base your decision on that alone. You may find a gem in the midst of your designer in mind.
My advice to all future brides and current brides to be, go in with an open mind. Do not settle for it because it is in your budget. I have to say that you should try a dress in every silhouette, fabric, length, straps, strapless, etc. You will be surprised with what you like. I know I was. This is the most important dress you will ever put on, so why cut corners? If you are a planner like myself, you should definitely get started as soon as possible (10 to 12 months ahead of time). Do not feel pressured from your family or friends to like something. If you don't get that instant feeling of "this is it" keep searching. After a long and busy weekend of trying on tons and tons of dresses, I can say that I am more confused than ever. But I went in with a clear mind and tried on many types. I will know if it is the one. I will know when I have it on that this is it. This is what I am going to marry my best friend in. This is the one.
